Dorrance Publishing – Writing Challenge
School might be out for summer but that doesn’t mean that the learning has to stop!
Rather than letting your kids’ brains take a vacation, too, we’re challenging them to a fun writing activity that you can do as well.
A child’s imagination is a flourishing place. Every day they transport themselves into another place that only their minds can create.
As a parent, you can see when your child has taken the leap from reality and into their imagination. It’s in those instances that you wonder what they could be imagining.
In that spirit, we’re kicking off our Dorrance Publishing writing challenge series with a rather simple, yet fun, prompt.
To keep both your and your children’s creativity and imaginations fresh, we’re challenging you to write a letter to your future selves. In this letter, you can write just about anything! If you need a little boost to get started, here are some ideas:
- Describe what’s happening in that moment in time. Where are you writing the letter? How old are you? What is currently happening in the world?
- Make a note of an idea you had about the future and describe if it came true or not.
- Write about what you think your life will look like in five, 10 or 15 years. Where will you be working? What will the world be like? Where will you be living?
These are just a few ideas to kick start your letter writing, so take these examples and let your creativity jump in the driver’s seat. This writing challenge is all about having fun, so let your imagination soar. Then exchange your letters with your children and take turns reading them aloud and comparing how each of you sees the future.
We hope that this writing challenge not only helps you rekindle the fire of your imagination, but gives you a little behind-the-scenes looks into your kid’s as well!
Happy writing!
