Dorrance Publishing (DP): Describe your book in 10 words or less.
Christopher L. Knauer (CLK): It is an autobiography of my life and my experiences as an on-air radio personality.
DP: What made you want to write your book?
CLK: I was encouraged by many friends and relatives. In addition, the more I thought about writing my book I felt I had a story to tell. It was also my way of leaving a legacy to my children and grandchildren.
DP: How long did it take you to write your book?
CLK: Five years.
DP: How do you choose the names of your characters?
CLK: I did not use names in my book; instead, I described who I was talking about.
DP: What do you do when you have writer’s block?
CLK: I step away from my writing and do something else. I then come back to the book when an experience comes back into my head.
DP: What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
CLK: My favorite part to write was Chapter 7. It was the most enjoyable time in my career mainly because of the people I worked with and my radio listeners.
DP: If you were stuck on an island and had to have one person from each category with you, who would they be and why:
a. One character from your book:
CLK: My first general manager because he took a chance on me and gave me my first start in the business.
b. One fictional character:
CLK: God, He has been the ONLY one who has been with me through the good times and the bad.
DP: One famous person (living or dead):
CLK: Tom Hanks because he has been there and done that.
DP: Besides writing, what are your other interests?
CLK: I enjoy writing lyrics and music & traveling.
DP: Do you keep a journal?
CLK: No.
DP: How did you celebrate the publishing of your book?
CLK: I went out to eat at my favorite restaurant and had a gathering of people within the building I live when I opened my first book.
DP: If your book was made into a movie, who would play the main characters?
CLK: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, and the rest of the cast of Grease.
DP: What did you enjoy most about working with Dorrance Publishing?
CLK: I enjoyed how helpful they were in all aspects of the publishing business to me as a first-time author.
