Barbara Ann Colbert (BAC): Imaginative, intriguing, heartwarming, delightful.
DP: What made you want to write your book?
BAC: Inspired by the adventures of my daughter and my younger sister when they were young children.
DP: How long did it take you to write your book?
BAC: Approximately 5 to 7 years.
DP: How do you choose the names of your characters?
BAC: They were originally the nicknames names of my daughter and my younger sister.
DP: What do you do when you have writer’s block?
BAC: Step back from the project for whatever amount of time it takes me to get re-inspired; try to isolate myself from day-to-day concerns and focus strictly on writing.
DP: What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
BAC: My favorite part of the book is when the ancient leaders surrender their powers and pass them along to the children.
DP: If you were stuck on an island and had to have one person from each category with you, who would they be and why:
a. One character from your book:
BAC: Bubble – because of her kind, gentle and nurturing spirit
b. One fictional character:
BAC: Jessica Fletcher (from “Murder She Wrote”) – because of her adventurous nature
c. One famous person (living or dead):
BAC: William Borden – because of his love for humanity and his sacrifice of wealth for his devotion to missionary work
DP: Besides writing, what are your other interests?
BAC: Reading, Inspirational Speaking
DP: Do you keep a journal?
BAC: No
DP: How did you celebrate the publishing of your book?
BAC: Shared with my closest friends and family how much it was a blessing to be a published writer. Praised God.
DP: If your book was made into a movie, who would play the main characters?
BAC: I don’t know who would play those roles. That would be left up to those who specialize in that field.
DP: What did you enjoy most about working with Dorrance Publishing?
BAC: The work they did on preparing the book for publishing, particularly designing the cover.
DP: Five favorite books of all time?
BAC: Animal Farm; Needful Things; Misery; Beloved; Delores Claiborne
DP: One sentence of advice for other writers:
BAC: Never limit yourselves to what you think people will believe, let your imagination be your guide.
